Who we are
MathsTutor.com and the MathsTutor app are a practice service for Cambridge IGCSE Mathematics (0580) and Additional Mathematics (0606), with an AI tutor. They are run by Addestra Sdn Bhd, a company incorporated in Malaysia. Contact us about your data at hello@mathstutor.com.
What we collect
- Your account: name, email address and password (the password is held by our sign-in provider, not by us).
- Study details: year group, course, tier and exam date.
- What you do on the site: your messages to the AI tutor and its replies, your answers to questions, and your scores and progress.
- Parents: a parent or guardian's email address when a student under 13 signs up or invites a parent, and the link between a parent's and a student's accounts.
- Messages to us: what you write in our forms or emails, and a phone number if you choose to give one.
- Payments: if you buy a plan, our payment provider handles your card details. We receive whether the payment went through, not your card number.
- Device and usage: pages visited, browser and device type (in the app, whether it is iPhone or Android and the app version), and your IP address (used to keep the site secure and to stop abuse).
Why we use it
- To run your account, the AI tutor, practice questions and your progress.
- To send the emails the service needs: sign-in links, parent invitations and, if you choose them, progress summaries.
- To keep the site and its users safe, including checks on what the AI tutor says.
- To see which pages and features help students, so we can improve them.
- To meet our legal obligations.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your data. We share it only with the services that run the site for us, and only for that purpose:
- hosting, database and sign-in providers;
- an email delivery provider;
- an AI provider, which receives tutor messages so it can write the replies;
- a payment provider, if you buy a plan;
- analytics providers, only if you choose Accept on the cookie banner;
- an error-monitoring provider, with account details, email addresses and form contents removed first;
- authorities, where the law requires it.
Some of these services store data outside the country you live in. We use them only for running MathsTutor.com.
How long we keep it
We keep your data no longer than needed for the purpose we collected it for. You can delete your account at any time in Settings, or by emailing hello@mathstutor.com.
Children and parents
- The tutor is an AI, not a person.
- Students under 13 need a parent or guardian's email address to sign up, and we tell that parent about the account.
- A parent who links to a student's account can see the student's progress. To remove a link, email hello@mathstutor.com.
- Parents can ask us to see, correct or delete their child's data at hello@mathstutor.com.
- If you are worried about a child's safety on MathsTutor.com, email safeguarding@mathstutor.com.
Cookies and similar technologies
Strictly necessary (always on)
- anon_session_token (cookie, 7 days): lets a visitor who is not signed in keep their AI tutor conversation and carry it into their account if they sign up. It is deleted when they sign in.
- Sign-in session (browser storage): keeps you signed in. It is removed when you sign out.
- mathstutor_cookie_consent (browser storage): remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies.
- Security checks: our hosting and form-protection providers may store short-lived data to check that a visitor is a person and not a bot.
Preferences (stay on your device)
Your browser's storage also keeps settings such as your theme, your course and which messages you have dismissed. We do not use these to identify you.
Our own visit counting (only if you choose Accept)
We keep mt_vid (browser storage): a random number, with the page you first arrived on and the first free tool you used, so we can see which pages lead people to sign up. It contains nothing about who you are and is not shared with anyone else. We set it only after you choose Accept. If you choose Decline, nothing is stored and we do not count your visits.
Analytics (only if you choose Accept)
Our analytics providers set cookies (for example _ga and _ga_<ID>) to count visits and see which pages are used, only after you choose Accept. If you choose Decline, or have not chosen yet, they do not load.
Embedded videos
Some pages show videos in a privacy-enhanced player that sets no cookies until you press play. Once a video plays, the video site's own cookie policy applies.
Changing your choice
To change your analytics choice, clear this site's data in your browser and the cookie banner will appear again. Blocking the strictly necessary storage will stop sign-in from working.
